Compass Cup - About us informationHow it beganThe Compass Cup is one of those wacky Australian events that shows our warped sense of humour. Back in 1973, the local Rural Youth were looking at ways of making money for the local community, and having fun at the same time. Someone came up with the idea that hopping aboard an untrained cow and riding it would be fun. The thousands of people that have watched the Compass Cup since would definitely agree. In the early days there was no fenced off arena, it was the crowd that kept the cows "on-track" so to speak. After many escapes down the main Adelaide to Victor Harbor road and into the streets of Mount Compass, it was recommended that a fenced arena be erected to keep the cows in. Why come to the Compass Cup?
